Welcome to re-enactmentevents.com!

Ten years, outside of a few short interuptions, this web site has now been up and active for ten years. It has been a strange journey, and not one that can really be described in a linear fashion. It began in the late summer or early autumn of 2000 with three friends working together to make a web site to showcase our experiences at re-enactments (at that time mostly the originator of the ideas experiences). Together with her experiences, the graphical brilliance of a designer, and my technical know-how, re-enactmentevents DOT com was founded.

As the years have worn on, and the different folks level of participation changed and a few of the three went on to explore other paths, the focus and direction of the web site has changed. At some point years ago, the web site wound up being left in my hands. Let me tell you, that while I have tried to keep the web site up and running on my own, as one person the amount of work done here to make the site what it could be has been very slow. One of the main set-backs has been some changes in the direction and purpose of the web site. Even after sole decision making was left to me, I have changed my mind a few times on what this web site is and should be.

Currently the web site has become a repository for elements of the hobby of re-enacting that I have felt passionate enough to write short articles about over the years, with a couple of items by other people who have granted me permission to post their work here as well. It is my hope that over the winter of 2010, I may get to add some more content here, and perhaps for the first time in ten years, get the web site to a point where it may be close to one of the many visions of the site that have been thought of over the years.

As always the web site will mostly reflect the elements of the hobby of re-enacting that are closest and of most interest to me. In the past, late Dark Age Norse (Viking) re-enacting was my passion, but as time wore off, my interests jumped a handful of ceturies down the time line. I plan to keep the Norse stuff around, for nostalgia purposes (and because I still dabble in it), but my main focus in recent years has been the later half of the 17th century and the early years of the 18th century, and that is the direction I hope to develop more here.
